DMIA vies for ISO certification

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), the operating arm of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), has started its campaign to get the International Organization for Standardization (ISO-9001:2008) program to keep in tune with the worldwide industrial and commercial standards.

CIAC Vice-President for Operations and Business Development and concurrent ISO General Manager Romeo N. Dyoco Jr. said the move will pave the way to meeting worldwide industrial and commercial standards as well as upgrade services to international travelers and passengers using the DMIA as the Premier Gateway in the country.

The ISO program for DMIA started in January this year with the involvement of government support agencies such as the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA), the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Bureau of Customs (BOC), the Bureau of Quarantine, the Department of Health (DOH), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Bureau of Plants and Animal Industry, Asiana Airlines, Air Asia Berhad, Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific Air, Miascor-Gate Gourmet and the Clark Airport Support Services.

Dyoco said CIAC had signed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with all the service providers.

Also included in the ISO program are the various CIAC departments such as the Airport Operations Department (AOD), the Emergency Services Department (ESD), the Aviation Security Department (ASD), the Airport Security and Intelligence Office (ASIO), Finance Department, the Human Resource Department (HRD), the Corporate Planning Department-MIS IT, the Property and General Services Department (PGS) and the Engineering Maintenance Department (EMD).

Dyoco said the scope of the ISO 9001:2008 Certification Project involves Passenger Facilitation where CIAC aims to deliver better quality service to international travelers and passengers at the DMIA which is now bustling with international and domestic flights provided by international and local air carriers.

TUV Rheinland is the certifying body for the ISO Certification. CIAC will proceed for the ISO internal support services process for the next program.

He said the target date for the ISO Certification of the DMIA is on December 29, 2009, as he expressed confidence that DMIA will get the certification.

In November, CIAC concluded a three-day Internal Quality Audit Course held at the Lohas Hotel at the Clark Freeport Zone. At least 39 participants attended the seminar. Of the 39, 23 passed the International Quality Auditor qualifying examinations. They will be utilized for the CIAC auditing team.

Dyoco also revealed that Phase Two of the ISO Certification Program will soon be undertaken and includes the certification of other departments and processes.
