CIAC undertakes cost-saving measures

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) management has undertaken cost-saving measures to save funds and to improve fiscal management this year amid the economic crisis that could affect its operations.

CIAC President and CEO Victor Jose I. Luciano said the move will fine-tune the expenditures of the corporation to ensure that funds are utilized diligently as it implements various development projects for the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA).

Among the austerity measures instituted include power-saving measures such as the switching off of air-conditioners and lights during lunch break and turning off computers and other equipment when not in use.

Another is the monthly monitoring of the electricity and water consumption including telephone usage and the regular monitoring of fixtures for these utilities.

Luciano said a 10-percent reduction will be applied on all the operational expenses of CIAC as well as the monthly gasoline and oil allocation for the departments and the monitoring of the consumption has also been implemented as well as the prioritization of the repair and maintenance in order of importance.

The adoption of a warehousing system to keep track of the inventory of construction materials and other supplies has also been implemented.

He said advertising and the promotion of the DMIA will still be a priority but management has suggested promoting the airport in such a way that it gets optimum exposure yet in the most prudent and economical way.

Luciano said only seminars, trainings and travel that will ensure returns to CIAC will be prioritized based on the order of importance.

“Over all these measures, a 10-percent general reserve will be set aside to address circumstances that may arise in the course of the economic situation,” he stressed.

“These measures have been implemented to ensure CIAC optimizes spending without sacrificing operations and the quality of service at the DMIA in the face of the prevalent economic situation,” Luciano stressed.
